Saturday
Great run by Sally, winning her age group at Striders 10km at North Head. She was a bit disappointed not to break 45mins, but by the look of her at the end, she gave everything. Looking pale and swaying around, I had to make her sit down before she fell down! The course is 100-200m long and without that, she would have come in 30-50secs quicker. New PB = 45:54. She's well on track for sub 100mins at Gold Coast Half.
Average run from me. Legs felt heavy after a big week and didn't have good pace. I felt really strong though, which is a good sign for GCM. John Bartlett said to me that he's never worked so hard for a 34min 10km and I have to agree. Everyone seemed to run slower than usual, only Dave went under 33mins and only just. Some strange comments post race about me 'looking like I was working really hard'. Not sure how to take that! Sure, I was working hard, but it's hard running 3:20/km. Can't say I felt I was working any harder than usual, but with my weekly load, maybe I was?
34:15 for 9th overall. 16km for the day
Sunday
36.5km in 2:38 - 4:20/km (last 10km in 39:45 - 3:58/km)
Met Tom and Sam at 5:45am, but Macca didn't get the message, so we didn't start until 6am! Same route as last week, but we were all totally knackered. Tiger sent me an SMS last night to say I didn't have to do the last 10km hard which I was very grateful for. Steady pace most of the way round, chatting, the time went quickly (although we did get muddy). We couldn't stop ourselves picking up the pace in the last 10km after the second water stop - coming out of the bush and almost home, it seems the right thing to do. We didn't pick it up as much as last week, but covered the distance in less than 40mins in relative comfort.
141km for the week.
One sad event this week, Chris McCormack didn't make the Olympic tri team. Another poor decision. On the positive side, it'll be fun watching him crush Lance at Kona in October.
