Striders 10k at Lane Cove - DNF
First DNF in about 15 years and I'm totally gutted. I was sitting comfortable in third after 5k, knowing the two guys in front were blowing far harder than me. On the few down hill sections on the way out, I'd easily had the measure of them. At the very least I was on track for a podium, but felt confident I could take the win. At about 5.2kms, there's a real decent down hill section and I opened up my stride, only for my hamstring to really pull hard. I tried to keep going but after 100m stopped, knowing that I would do more permanent damage and this was only a preparation race for the main event later in the season. Not sure if it's a strain, pull, tear or what, but it's at the junction of my hamstring and glute. Six hours later, it's still sore and I'm getting sharp pains whenever I put any weight through it.
So gutted I missed my chance at a decent finish (field was light at the front today), missed a good shot at a pb, wasted a few days freshening up and had to work for almost an hour to get back to the start/finish. Worst of all though (I could accept all of that), I'm insure how much time this will lose me getting ready for Gold Coast.
Coach has ordered a few days rest, so we'll see how I am after that. In the meantime, Sally and will enjoy our camp trip to Kangaroo Valley.
Recover mate. Sounds like a few days off and a physio trip. Don't rush back and do it in properly. Clyde
ReplyDeleteBad luck about the hamstring mate. Thought training was going well beforehand.
ReplyDeleteTake it easy mate. A week off will probably do you more good in the medium term.
